Tour de Fleece Day 1: Kickoff!

Spinners, start your wheels! It's Day 1 of Tour de Fleece! I laid out the fiber for this year's goals: four ounces of alpaca roving that I dyed yesterday (and only felted a little), which will be a 3-ply, two ounces of locally-grown cashmere from Goat Knoll Farm, which will be a 2-ply laceweight, and a little over 2 ounces of midnight blue pygora, from Rainbow Farms Pygora, which will also be a 2-ply laceweight. Bonus if I can get some of the Shetland fleece I've been working on carded and dyed and spun up.

Team Crunchy Green got off to a start today with a kickoff potluck, hosted by Helen (BlueDragon on Ravelry), her using a spindle while the glue dries on her broken flyer.

Katie works another spindle, while Baby Ellie eats a project bag -- well, that's one way to introduce her to the craft:

Non-spinners gather around the knitting table and knit, play Words with Friends, or just enjoy the sunshine and good food.

Alyssa and Duke provided canine company:

And so did Oscar:

While Ellie entertained everyone with her amazing squee-ness:

Helen's friend Steve brought over his custom-made motor-tricycle. His faithful standard poodle, Buddy, rides in the back with his own safety harness:

Today's progress: about an ounce of the alpaca spun fine. I may add some more this evening.

I think we're off to a good start!

I just love the colour you dyed the fleece and can't see what you make with it.
